What is the best practice for delivery of the digital asset during information handover? This is a question that has long troubled both EPCs and owner operators, but there is a new guideline emerging – Capital Facilities Information Handover Specification (CFIHOS). The most successful strategy is based on mandatory use of CFIHOS guidelines and leveraging smart, data-centric software to manage the data during the project and facilitate the transition to operations.
Provision of poor quality data during handover - whether incomplete, incorrect, or in incompatible formats - will potentially delay “First Production” schedule, increase project costs, and increase operational costs going forward; industry experience shows that handover costs using traditional methods can be as high as 6 to 8 percent of the capital project cost. Successful implementation of the new industry standard, CFIHOS (Capital Facilities Information Handover Specification) could this reduce this between 2 and 4 percent!
This approach enables appointed EPCs to streamline activities through reuse of quality data across the design disciplines. It also supports timely handover of quality information to support operational readiness and support future operational strategies such as “Safe, Sustainable Engineering and Operational Excellence” going forward.
CFIHOS has been adopted and endorsed by many large companies such as Shell, Chevron, BP, Dow Chemical, INPEX and EPCs such as JGC, Technip, Samsung, TOYO, Bechtel, and CB&I.
